The Annual Forum of Communication & Information Technology The Role of Communication & Digital Financial Solutions in Enhancing Financial Inclusion
7-8 march 2019 LAICO HOTEL, Tunis - Tunisia

BACKGROUND
Financial inclusion is an important measure in the strategy of comprehensive and sustainable development, due to its impact on enhancing growth opportunities, and social and financial stability. The G20 has adopted financial inclusion as a key focus in the fiscal and economic development agenda. Moreover, The World Bank has set an ambitious goal: to achieve universal financial access by 2020, due to its effective role in fighting poverty and unemployment worldwide.

International statistics of 2017 indicated that there is about 1.7 billion adults around the world who do not have access to financial services, despite the increase in the global average of adults who have bank accounts - by 69% currently compared to 62% in 2014, according to Global Findex.

The tremendous and rapid development in communication and information technology has contributed to the emergence of many financial services and innovative business models, such as Mobile Banking, and branchless banking, as well as improving funding of individuals and micro and small- sized enterprises, and enhancing financial inclusion where many constraints that hinder the financial services have diminished, thanks to these innovative business models.

There are many opportunities, which could contribute to facilitating access to financial services for a greater number of individuals and businesses through expanding the financial services and products, and providing innovative technological solutions to attract more financial transfers. Furthermore, it helps boost the growth in the demand for such services and financial products by adopting national strategies of financial education.
